About

My name is Karen McGuire, owner and sole practitioner of The Ephemeral Garden. I am a gardener, herbalist, pressed flower artist, naturalist and community builder in the Omaha-area, including Elkhorn, Valley, & Waterloo, Nebraska. As I connect with the land and the seasons, I often reflect on the turning of the wheel, each season bringing new forms of life, challenges and change.

I spent a decade as the healthcare partner for my dad before he went into hospice care. Then, I spent 6 months watching his health decline before he died. I experienced first-hand that the people who work in hospice give so much to each patient as well as to their families. However, since we had family in different states, I knew that we needed additional support. This lead my dad and I to employ a death doula to assist us in the journey of his exit from this life.

Death work called to me because I believe that everyone deserves to die with dignity and respect. I am also keenly aware that the loved ones that will be left behind also need a great deal of support.

If you think you might need a death doula, I am happy to offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your unique circumstances. Fill out the Contact Form and I will reach out to you soon.
